Award-Winning BSC Member Educates Builders on Offsite Construction

Ken Semler, president and founder of , was honored with the S.A. Walters Award during the Building Systems Housing Summit in September. The highest honor bestowed by the Building Systems Councils (BSC), the S.A. Walters Award recognizes lifetime achievement in systems-built housing

Semler has two decades of experience in the modular homes industry. As a licensed/registered/certified builder in 42 states, Semler has given numerous presentations on the modular home industry, including at NAHB’s International Builders’ Show.

He is also the publisher of OFFSITE Builder Magazine — the only magazine dedicated to promoting the building systems Industry. He has written more than 200 articles related to offsite modular construction, including NAHB-specific publications such as the 55+ Housing Online Magazine and NAHB Ideas app.

“What I always tell people when we have current site builders try to convert to modular, they’re often frustrated because they think a different way is the wrong way,” Semler observed. “They need to put that aside. Building systems are a better way to build.”

Semler also is an active leader within NAHB. He is an NAHB National Director representing the Eastern Panhandle HBA, a former BSC chairman, and currently serves as a trustee for both the BSC and the Custom Home Builders Committee. He maintains a Gold Key member status with NAHB's BUILD-PAC. Semler volunteered to participate in the soft launch of the NAHB Mentor Match Program with the Building Systems Councils.

Semler founded Impresa Modular Franchising as the first successful franchise introduced to grow and train new participants entering the world of modular construction. He holds accounting degrees from Shepherd University and the Virginia Polytechnic Institute. He has also earned a Certified Aging in Place Specialist (CAPS) designation from NAHB.
