Tell Your Senators to Pass the Promoting Resilient Buildings Act (H.R. 5473)
NAHB urges the Senate to pass H.R. 5473, the Promoting Resilient Buildings Act, before the end of the year. Unanimously passed by the House, this bill preserves local control over building code adoption and strengthens community resilience to extreme events. It promotes a balanced, cost-effective approach to disaster preparedness while ensuring housing remains affordable.
The power of NAHB is in its 140,000 members. Leaders at the federal, state, and local levels listen when thousands of voices say the same thing. Members should explore NAHB’s political action committee, BUILD-PAC, that donates campaign funds to pro-housing Congressional candidates.
Additional Issues Demanding Action Now
- Prevent Costly Energy Codes Mandate - Congress , providing for congressional disapproval under chapter 8 of title 5, United States Code, of the rule submitted by the Department of Housing and Urban Development and the Department of Agriculture, relating to the “adoption of energy efficiency standards for new construction of HUD and USDA-financed housing.” This resolution would preserve housing affordability and availability for home buyers of HUD- and USDA-financed homes.
- Recruit Local Code Officials to Serve on ICC - Local code officials, especially from smaller jurisdictions, are underrepresented on the roster of International Code Council (ICC) voters, and their views on building codes typically align with builders. NAHB created a guide to help you talk to your local officials about joining ICC as voting members.
